One idea that I had to come to understand was the definition of Balk. It's a baseball term "in which a pitcher makes an illegal motion that may deceive the base runner." Also when used as a verb it can "hesitate or be unwilling to accept an idea or undertaking."
The "balk" in this story is more related to the second definition .
The story's antagonist Pat is unwilling to accept that the star player is not going to play in the little leagues championship game so he decides to "kidnap" the star player so that he can play in the baseball game.
The character Pat, is a low class, sharp tongued parking attendant whose child like nature annoys anyone that comes into contact with him. He doesn't take life too seriously and I wanted to play on his juvenile behavior by putting him graphic t-shirts.
His color palette consisted of red, burgundy and orange. These colors are bright, similar to what a child would wear, as a result he almost looks like a grown child.
The protagonist in the story is Rob, he is lower middle class groundskeeper for the little league time. Rob's wardrobe reflected his nostalgia for his high school baseball days by wearing sportswear.
His color palette of green, olives and brown reflected his ability to be a bit more stable.
